Have had this for two days now. I love it. Excellent buy. Connected immediately to the net on start up. Runs MS Office 2007 well. AVI movies play well. I purchased the 2 gig expansion separately. Looking forward to what it can do with double memory. The keyboard is nice. I like the Mac feel of it. Great buy. Very pleased.

Best computer purchase to date
I could not be more pleased with this purchase. I have had this little netbook for nearly a week now, and it has turned out to be much more than I'd hoped.
SIZE: I prefer this 10" screen over the 8.9"/9" screens of some of the smaller yet well known netbooks. The additional inch makes a huge difference, in my opinion. While the screen is still small, I haven't had much issue navigating web pages and various documents. Using minimal toolbars helps to maximize the available screen, and this was easily accomplished. The ASUS easily fits in a larger sized purse and at just over 3 pounds, is SO easy to carry around.
SCREEN: The screen has a matte finish as opposed to the glossy look. I prefer this finish. I do not see my reflection in the screen. It presents a clear image of documents, web pages, etc.
FINISH: OK, so I guess this is a "fingerprint magnet" but BIG DEAL! To be honest, I am a bit picky about this kind of thing but it is truly not a big deal. I am considering a skin for it, but it is pretty decent looking without (I have the blue).
COLOR: The blue finish is fairly dark, approaching navy, with a slight metallic shimmer. I suppose it is similar to that of a Pepsi can. It is quite attractive, and is neither too feminine nor too masculine, in my opinion.
BATTERY: It claims a 9.5 hour battery life, with conservative use of course. Set on "power saving mode" (which is not the most conservative setting), working on documents and using wireless internet simultaneously, I have easily gotten over 7 hours of life. I am very impressed by the battery capabilities of this machine. It outlasts any other netbook that I am aware of at this point. I started using this at work one morning, shut the lid if I left for any period of time, and it was just giving me a "30 minutes left" warning as I was wrapping up for the day.
TRACKPAD: This trackpad offers multi-function use. For example, using the trackpad alone will allow you to select, deselect, scroll up and down the page, move side to side on a page, and more....all with no more than 3 fingers. It is nicely responsive, not too sensitive and not too tight. The two mouse buttons are a bit stiff, but because of the trackpad capabilities, I don't even need to use them much.
KEYBOARD: This is quite nicely designed. I was a little nervous going to a smaller keyboard but I adapted in no time at all. I mean, within 5 minutes, seriously. There is slight flex to the keyboard, but nothing of concern. The right shift key is in perfect position. I am a touch typist, probably close to 100 wpm at this point, and I have NO problem whatsoever typing on this keyboard. None. Do NOT be afraid of this smaller keyboard....it is wonderful.
CAMERA: I have used the camera with a couple of different programs and it offers a very acceptable picture. No issues at all, it was ready to go.
OS/SOFTWARE: This comes with XP Home Edition and StarOffice software. If you don't have access to, or don't want to pay for Microsoft Office, not to worry. StarOffice is a great program (check it out online), easy to use, and files can be readily opened using Microsoft programs. Skype came preinstalled, as well InterVideo WinDVD if you elect to add an external DVD player.
OTHER: This comes with a small, soft cleaning cloth for those pesky fingerprints. It works very well. The lid closes and opens easily, but feels sturdy. The entire machine feels sturdy, better than my full sized, "top brand" laptop. The adapter is small and easily packs up for ease of transportation. I find I am charging this at night, and going sans external power source during the day. I easily upgraded to 2 MB of ram with a small Philips screwdriver (2 screws on bottom of machine). It was a 5 minute job, tops. This also comes with a black neoprene, zip-top protective case.
SUMMARY: This is an absolutely outstanding netbook for the price. I have ordered three more for our kids. I would not hesitate at all to recommend the ASUS Eee PC 1000HE for anyone looking for a Windows based netbook
